Not long afterward, however, the plots of those stories began to change with the growing popularity of the internet. Just the year before, only 71 of the couples announced met on dating apps. From Mutual to LDS Singles to social media and everything in between, the virtual world has brought new meaning to Latter-day Saint dating, too. Summer Green Resort lies some 25km 15 miles north of India’s southern city of Hyderabad. Situated over 22 acres, the complex resembles a gated community that wouldn’t be out of place in Florida. While the resort typically plays host to corporate functions, weddings, and the odd family holiday, recently it entertained an altogether different type of crowd. To the uninitiated, the event appears to be a series of workshops centred around this year’s rather loosely termed theme, Decisions Determine Destiny.
Things we now know about Mormons. A quick chat with the event’s participants makes things a bit clearer.
Talmage was apparently the first LDS writer to propose this particular date. Nearly a century has passed since his book appeared, and in that time it has become practically axiomatic among Latter-day Saints that Jesus was born on April 6 in that year. Two other Apostles, President J. Reuben Clark and Elder Bruce R. In this article, Jeffrey R. Chadwick, Jerusalem Center Professor of Archaeology and Near Eastern Studies, draws upon many sources—scriptural, historical, archeological, and astronomical—to shed light on the probable date of the Savior’s birth.
Using the known date of Herod the Great’s death, information from the Book of Mormon about the length of Jesus’s life, technical details about the Jewish lunar-solar calendar, the timing of the Annunciation to Mary, and other historical data, Chadwick narrows the window of time in which the Savior would have been born to December of 5 BC. The author is careful to deal with statements made by latter-day prophets supporting the April 6, 1 BC, date first proposed by Elder Talmage.
Chadwick is able to show that these statements always occur in talks given about other topics not expressly about the date of Christ’s birth and probably rely on Elder Talmage’s assumptions. But a careful look at Doctrine and Covenants , upon which Talmage’s proposal is based, shows that this verse was not a revelation by the Lord about his birth date. In fact, the verse is likely prefatory material dictated by Joseph Smith and recorded by his scribe with the express purpose of establishing the date of the Church’s organization rather than the date of the Savior’s birth.

Imagine hearing that said by a church leader over the pulpit to your congregation during a sacrament meeting when you’re just trying to become a better person. This was not well received by me or most of the guys who attended that meeting. Honestly, who has the time and money to take out two different girls every week? I wish I could say that things like this are a rarity, but, in my experience as a church member, they are not.
Marriage is one of the most important and often talked about teachings in the Mormon Church officially known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Unmarried young adult members of this faith are often taught entire sermons on the subject of dating. While most of these members consider marriage a high priority, they also feel this emphasis leads to a culture that is not helpful and quite often very toxic.
It is also important to note that although Mormons have entered polygamous marriages in the past, this has not been an official church practice since the year Although I want to be married and have a family someday, I question whether going on an insane amount of dates is the right way to achieve this. I actually thought that a dating quota would be common in areas with a high population of church members, like Utah.
Marriage in a temple, such as this one in northwest Calgary, is an important teaching in the Mormon Church.

These days movies, magazines, and commercials immortalize the young and photographically altered, creating a myth that exceptionally beautiful people are more abundantly available than is reality. This leaves singles with the perception that if they wait, they will be able to be with someone similar to what others seem to have independent of their own level of attractiveness. If their current partner does not seem ideal, they need not commit.
